Fur Coat
A rare opportunity to own one of two of Edward Gorey's raccoon coats (the other is on display at the museum)! The coat will be auctioned as part of the Fifth Annual GoreyFest and Alphabet Auction. As Gorey's concern about animal welfare grew, he went from "wearing raccoons to housing them" in the attic of his Yarmouth Port home. This important artifact is for the ultimate discriminating collector who shares Edward's understanding of the importance of the care of animals and actively promoting their welfare. Fur coats were a 'trademark' of Edward's illustrations and self-portraits, and it was important to him to put his collection into storage in the late 1980's as a personal statement on behalf of animal welfare. Half of the proceeds from this sale will go to the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust whose sole mission is to support Animal Welfare.
*As Gorey's dedication to animal welfare grew he evolved from wearing fur coats to allowing racoons to live in the attic. The sale of this signature artifact is for the ultimate discriminating collector who shares Edward's understanding of the importance of the care of animals and actively promotes their welfare.

A mixed media painting by Robert A. English. The artist states: “Being free and self-taught has allowed me to ignore most so-called rules. There’s always an element of chance in my paintings and I find myself working on four or five pieces at the same time. My subjects are quite ordinary – fruit, vegetables, shells… but I would hope that my presentation is anything but ordinary.” Painting size: 22 x 20 ½ (not including frame)
